I get a "failed to connect to the server" error and logic crashes after it fails. It doesn't crash the computer, just stops logic. I can re-start logic with no ill effect. I have been getting this behavior for the last week or so. Computer is a new dell with win 8.1 intel i7-4790, 16GB ram and a clean machine no other problems.

I check my LoTW account and the files do not upload and are not there. It never gets that far. It gets to the "you logged into LoTW successfully" message and the server error is after that.

logic is 9.0.71

any ideas? what else can I tell you?

thanks KD0PO

G'Day KD0PO,

The OLE error is probably the key to your problem. OLE - stands for Object Linking and Embedding, how different parts of a Windows system inter-communicate. So, a tool external to LOGic, that LOGic is attempting to use, is miss configured. Probably Internet Explorer.

You may have a problem with the PC involving Internet Explorer.

Are you, your account on the PC, an "Administrator"? Is LOGic running as an "Administrator"?

You can help by posting images of any errors and including your Logic version.

there is only one user account on the PC so yes, I am the administrator.

Chrome is the default browser.

The LoTW web site loads and displays properly when I run the "upload to LoTW" report in logic. It is after that that I get the errors. If I click "ignore" I get additional error msg's. If I click close, it closes the msg and logic.

The desk-top icon for logic has the little shield on it so I believe that means it is run as administrator yet when I click on properties for that icon the box for
run as administrator" is not checked.

The icon for tQSL does not have the little shield on it.

again, this is a new load on a new computer. there are no non ham programs on it other than chrome. McAfee and office 2015 came pre-loaded. I have the Green Heron utility, tQSL, Alpha control program and ROC loaded but not running when I try to do the LoTW upload.
The only program running is logic.

thanks for your help!!!! I have a flat spot on my head from banging it on the wall, haha.

I tried again at lunch time today as I had several new contacts to upload. Same first error msg but this time when I clicked "cancel" I got this screen:

and this time it crashed to the point that logic needed to be clean and run as "fist time" when I restarted it.

The LoTW screen that loads is in ie not chrome.

I immediately switched to the old vista machine and the data uploaded fine with no errors.

Is there a known issue with win 8.1??? I have all updates loaded from MS and again have nothing else on the machine running in the background.

Hi--

Sounds like in internet explorer problem. Does the Open LoTW Site in Browser button work?

Having chrome as the default browser should not matter, but you could try setting it back to IE. You have to have IE installed.

There might be helpful information here:
http://www.hosenose.com/...ing-LoTW-and-LOGic.aspx

I am not aware of any issues with Win 8.

Tnx & 73,

Hi Dennis,

yes the LoTW works fine in the open browser window.

It is also interesting that the "download contacts from LoTW" runs fine with no hang-up.

Chrome is also the default browser on the vista machine.

some additional observations: the open browser window does work and you can look at your LoTW info and change screens etc, but as for the upload, it just hangs on that first screen and never goes to the "your file uploaded successfully" screen. I've waited for over ten minutes with no change. I then close the browser window and that is when logic reports "upload failure" and gives me the error window.

I noticed that when the "Select station location" window comes up and you select the station, normally you have to enter a password at that point. For some reason the password step is skipped and it goes directly to LoTW. It appears with no password the log in fails. (The LoTW login doesn't fail, the upload does)

Just noticed my LoTW certificate had expired. I guess that would do it. :)
