Where is this located? I see Polling interval in seconds(polled rigs only) is set to 2.0

I am not sure of the setting beforehand but I see that polling is NOT checked when switching back to the K3 driver. I never have to reset the connection nor see the frequency revert 00.0000 and stay that way.

Hmmm.... Another mystery. I have to set my POLLING to ON to keep the frequency in the rig control window from reverting to 00.0000, but it causes LOGic to crash more often when I do that.

Try turning off DTR & RTS.

Been doing web searches for this error. I haven't found anything related to RS-232 ports, other than one guy who was having problems with a USB=>RS232 adapter and getting this error.

The solution was to go to a DOS command prompt and do

SFC /SCANNOW

You might need to run the command prompt AS ADMINISTRATOR.

Probably not the problem, but easy to do -- you never know.

I was talking on the phone with someone yesterday about this, and he said that a Windows update included a new FTDI driver. Am I correct that this has become more of a problem lately? Other than adding polling, we haven't touched the K3 interface in years.

73,

Yes, Dennis, but I've had this problem for years. Ever since I started using a K3, I have always had crashing problems. I cannot speak for any other K3/LOGic users, though. I have ruled out the K3 (tried several) and you have ruled out the microHAM. I do have an RS-232 SteppIR "Y" cable attached to the system, connected to the SteppIR control box. I cannot remember at this time if I ever did any long term testing without it, but I will disconnect it and try. However, there are others with the same problem, and I doubt all of them have SteppIRs. BTW, the SteppIR control box just sits on the RS-232 line and "listens" to the traffic, it does not send any data.

Ran the command SFC /SCANNOW completed 100% with no issues found.

A new FTDI was released to brick the counterfeit adapters.

My adapter is using FTDI Version 2.12.0.0 dated 08/26/2014

Hi All,

I'm sorry I didn't answer some of the questions but others did (correctly) on my behalf. I forgot the "watch this topic box".

I have been experimenting more and some of my symptoms conflict with those others are seeing.

I withdraw my comment that the problem is more associated with Sub than Split. I now agree it shows up when in Split.

I read something in QEX about how polling can mess things up on the K3 (since it sends info out on its own) so I looked at my set up and polling was off as I think it should be for the K3. Just for the heck of it I first made sure I could duplicate the error then I turned polling ON. After that I could not duplicate the error though I did still see some strange behaviors in the display window as before the OLE did not show up. This makes no sense at all. So I turned polling OFF again. Now I can't duplicate the error but I know it will be back. When it does I will try the DOS command thing mentioned above though I have no idea what it does.

I'll post something when it returns.

Regards.
Bill
