Dear Dennis,

Wooowwww The time goes by ... since Logic 4 (DOS).
Today I installed the new Logic 9 and the update file 49.

In logic 7 I have more than 40.000 contacts with a lot of
information per QSO (BIO+#1010+#VP+#JCC+#DIG+#DOK+Counties+LOC+etc+etc+etc)
with a customized entry window.

All that complete information per QSO... is going to be transfer with the export tool at
logic7 and imported by Logic9?

Are there a way to import my costomized entre window, intestead of
set up a new one on Logic9?

Please think about it and pass me you tips in order do not loose
thousends of hours loading information in Logic7 database.

thanks for your support during many years of Logic.

Hi Horacio:

Yes, just do a backup in LOGic 7 and a Restore in LOGic 9. Choose OVERWRITE for the restore option and it will bring in the Biographical info and all user-defined fields. Of course you aren't actually overwriting anything since LOGic 9 is empty.

You can try to copy the LOGic 7 log forms to LOGic 9. The LOGic 8 ones are compatible, but I can't say for sure with LOGic 7.

Thank YOU for using LOGic for so many years!

Hi Dennis,
I already import de database, however to do what you suggested I have to delete the imported database to start again. How can I delete it and clean all?
Thanks

Ok, you want to get rid of all QSOs in the log, then restore?

To delete all QSOs in the log, go to tools/misc utilities/zap log.

Let me know if any questions.

Thanks,

DH

Good Morning Dennis,

I'm still trying to build with up to 15 user defined fileds the main entry window. I said trying because I defined the fields but do not show in the windows.

Backup and restore:
I did a complete deleto of all qso and then, after a backup on Logic 7 I restored on Logic 9.
The problem the the BIO notes, did not appear on the new Logic.
Any tips?

Thanks

Ok, the data came across no problem. You just need to first make sure the fields are defined in tools/setup/log fields, then add them to the log form.

You can try copying your LOGic 7 log forms into LOGic 9 (goes in the logdata/logforms folder). You can do that with LOGic 8, but I am not sure about LOGic 7.

HI Dennis,
I tryed to move the logform from Logic 7, but did'nt work. So I started again.
Prodedure: I defined the fields in tools/menu/logfields, and I don't remember how to add them to the log form.

And what do you suggest about the BIO info not restored from the Logic 7 back up?

regards
Horacio

Sorry I forgot your question about Bio.

Look in the TMP folder inside the LOGic install folder. There should be LOG_BIO.DBF and LOG_BIO.FPT in there. Copy them to the LOGDATA folder. (If they are not in the TMP folder, do a restore and select "do nothing" with the data.

Look in Help, under User Defined Fields.

Let me know if any questions.

Bio Info:
I copied the following files from Logdata folder of Logic 7 to the same in Logic 9:
LOG_BIO.DBF
LOG_BIO.FPT
LOG_BIO.CDX

Then I run clean index.
And run the Logic again.

The BIO info do not appear.

Any suggestion?
Thanks

Yesterday I try:

Unistall Logic 9
Install Logic 9
Install Update 49 of Logic 9
Backup database in Logic 7
Restore Backup of database of Logic 7 in Logic 9.
From Logic9/temp/
LOG_BIO.DBF
LOG_BIO.FPT
I checked if the info are in the files.
Then
In Logic9/Logdata
I rename the existing LOG_BIO.DBF and LOG_BIO.FPT as oldLOG_BIO.DBF and oldLOG_BIO.FPT
I copied from the Logic9/temp/ to Logic9/Logdata.

Result: the Bio info it is not there.

Help!!!!

Yes, I got your data -- thanks for sending it.

Here is what I think happened. The CALL fields are different lengths in LOG and LOG_BIO.

So go to tools/advanced/database commands. Type
USE LOG
MODIFY STRUCTURE

Note the size of the CALL field. 16 probably.

Now type
USE LOG_BIO EXCLUSIVE
MODIFY STRUCTURE

Change the size of CALL to match what was in LOG (16 for example).

Let me know!

Merry Xmas,

Dennis WN4AZY

Dear Dennis,
Thanks. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

After executing...
USE LOG
MODIFY STRUCTURE
The menu brought me to the open de Log_bio,
after open it I see the structure and the call field is 12 characters long.

Then I execute ...
USE LOG_BIO EXCLUSIVE
MODIFY STRUCTURE

And the log field is not editable to change it for 16 characters long.

As I don't low how to work with this kind of commands,
may be I missed something obvious.

What do you think?
Thanks
Horacio

Hi--

Make sure that all other forms are closed, and that

USE LOG_BIO EXCLUSIVE succeeds

It sounds like LOG_BIO is open and when that happens the MODIFY STRUCTURE command opens a window, but the title bar says (READ ONLY) and it won't let you change anything.

The next update will fix this automatically. Shouldn't be too long. Feature creep....

73 & happy new year,

DH
