Spot Log Voice Announcement Problem

The Spot log voice announcement has a problem completing an announcement.
When a new spot is to be announced, the only thing I hear is “DX”. All other data after that is apparently stuck in the queue. If I go to the Announcement tab and click on the pause/play button, the next portion of the announcement in the queue will play. Repeating this process several times causes the remaining portions of the announcement to play out one step at a time.

I am running XP with SP3.

Ok, I have an idea what this may be. Look in the SYSWAV folder and see if there are files with a .M extension. These are the new Male voice files. They got left out of some of the first-week distributions. I added them to the updates for several weeks, but since removed them due to bandwidth issues, hoping that everyone had downloaded them.

If they are missing, then install your CD -- I think all the CDs have these files. If not I will get the files to you.

Regardless, try changing sex to Female and see of the problem goes away.

I apologize for the problem.

Tnx & 73,

Dennis,

Male or Female makes no difference. There are several files with the .M extension in the SYSWAV folder.

Until I clear out the queue, the only thing I hear is the first "DX" no matter how many spots follow after the first one.

Thanks

Hi Dennis,
A month ago I've highlighted the exact same thing.
http://hosenose.com/Foru...95_Spot-Log-Window.aspx
This problem isn't in the files with .M or .F extensions.
Thanks

Sorry, I have no idea at this point.

Doesn't seem to be XP related. IK0CHU has the problem on multiple machines. I'm thinking it might be configuration, but I have no idea what. It blabs away incessently here hihi.

Call me and I can log in and maybe I will see something.

Tnx & 73,

Hi Dennis,
I have no the same problems on multiple machines ....
The problem, also had by Bill, occurs only on machines where XP SP3 operating system installed. In the same machines Logic8 works perfectly on announcements.
Logic9 has no problems with announcements on my laptop with W7. It all works regularly in both cw and in female, male or alternating voice.

Ok, so are you saying we cannot rule out a Win XP issue? I'll try it here on XP.

Today I installed Logic 9 on my main computer running Win7 64 bit, no Spot Log announcement problem.
I also installed Logic 9 on my laptop running XP Pro Svc Pack 3, same Spot Log announcement problem as on my Ham computer with XP Pro Svc Pack 3.
Logic 8, no problem on any of my computers.
Mauro and I have exactly the same problem.
Thanks

I never use the voice annouce feature in Logic but after reading this post, I turned it on just to see if it worked.
All I get is a voice annoucement of the numbers in the callsigns. My Syswav file seems to have all the necessary .M and .F files.

Russ,

Are you also running XP with Svc Pak 3?

I'm thinking this is a different problem than the others in this forum are reporting. That's really strange Confused

Ok, the announcement has been totally redone, so not surprised that LOGic 8 behaves differently.

So from what I have read here, this problem occurs on XP only.

Check your Direct X version. Type DXDIAG in Start/Run. I have version 11 on this Win 7 boxm but according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directx DirectX 9.0c 4.09.00.0904 is the latest version for XP and is apparently installed with SP3.

I wonder if it is a function of the number of cores in the processor? Do all of the machines it fails on have one processor? The announcer in LOGic 9 uses multithreading. It loads the second file into memory while playing the first, then when the first finishes, plays the second, while loading the 3rd, etc.

But just about everything uses multithreading, including Windows and LOGic 8. But maybe I have not implemented the multithreading properly or something. I set affinity to LOGic 9 to one processor and it still works -- notice no difference in sound performance.

Dennis:"DirectX 9.0c 4.09.00.0904 is the latest version for XP and is apparently installed with SP3."
Bill: I have 4.09.0000.0904 on both XP machines

Dennis: "I wonder if it is a function of the number of cores in the processor? Do all of the machines it fails on have one processor?
Bill: My ham computer has a AMD Athlon 3200+. My laptop has a AMD Turion 64. I have no idea how may cores they have. Both are XP Svc Pack 3

Dennis:' I set affinity to LOGic 9 to one processor and it still works -- notice no difference in sound performance.
Bill: "affinity"...I have no idea what you are referring to...I am not a programmer.

Bill: All this link does is produce a screen with a banner across the top which advertises "Word WarCraft"
the entire rest of the screen is blank.

3/18/2012:

Dennis,
What is the status as far as a fix to this problem?Confused IK0CHU (Mauro) and myself have clearly demonstrated (on 4 different computers) that this problem is XP related.
Thanks

Not yet. I have been working on it believe it or not. Worst case we will just put back the LOGIc 8 code for XP users -- but I want to not do that of course -- would like to keep full functionality you know.
