Dennis, something I've noticed for a long time now, but have never said anything about is Logic's propensity to shut itself down suddenly. This seems to happen if I do anything other than log qso's, such as run a report, do an ADIF export that is filtered and so on. It seems as if doing anything besides QSO entry will force a shutdown/clean/restart. I've had it happen while performing a report modification in report writer as well, which is really annoying. This is across multiple platforms and OS's. Any ideas?

Doug,
My previous desktop ran Windows XP (now upgraded to Windows 7). I turn it on in the AM and
I cannot recall it spontaneously shutting down. I log, upload/download from LoTW & eQSL,
download from a few of the Internet membership lists, run OmniRig to talk to my radio,
recently got in to digital modes with HamScope and FLDigi.

I would suggest regular hardware troubleshooting tips. Start with RAM. Windows 7 & 8 have
one as part of the diagnostic startup menu. If not, try Memtest86+

Thanks Don....I've had it run on numerous different XP boxes, and currently on an XP and a Win 7 Box. All operating systems I've tried exhibit the same behavior...but ONLY after running or modifying a report. If you run a DXCC report one time, it may not crash right away, but it will happen. If you run lots of reports back to back as I do, it happens faster. I'll run individual band/mode DXCC reports. If I go into the report writer to modify a report (I have a few where I've modified column widths so calls don't truncate), same thing happens. Logging activities don't seem to effect it, rig interface doesn't effect it, radio operation doesn't effect it.

Hi--

What version do you have? We fixed a problem with the report writer intermittently crashing LOGic a few revs ago. http://www.hosenose.com/...and-fixes.aspx#post4116
That doesn't explain the other stuff tho.

Good advice from Don. Also, Are you using non-FTDI USB=>RS232 adapters? Try disabling the radio interface, then spotting, etc -- anything running in the background to narrow down the problem.

Get the latest update. http://www.hosenose.com/...?find=lastpost#post4797

Tnx & 73,

Dennis, I'm on 9.0.72 already. This is a W7 machine, no adapters at all, not used with a radio. It's my easy chair laptop, and not connected to anything. I do have spot log up, and Telnet. I'll shut them down one at a time and see what happens.

It's the conflict between the report writer and spot log rearing its ugly head again. Is that not fixable, Dennis?

Or maybe not. Tonight I did a quick DXCC report, filtered for 12m because I had a new confirmation come in. I also did an ADIF export to upload to Clublog. About 10 minutes after I did the upload, Logic stopped working. Spotlog was not open. Telnet was open, but was not connected.

OK, tonight I left telnet closed and opened Spotlog. No crashes.

I fixed the problem with the report writer some time ago.

Have you found anything else that might be a clue?

Yes, as a matter of fact....this seems to be keyed to the Telnet window being open, not the spot log.
