I've looked all over the forum and the Hosenose website and probably missed the answer to this, but is there somewhere I can read about the differences between Log 9 and Logic 10?

The 9 to 10 update back in Aug 2021 was basically a major under-the-hood (Foxpro) update, many many features and improvements have been made in the almost 30 updates since then. If you need a reason to upgrade to LOGic 10, its a no brainer. Latest version is 10.00.28.

If you need specific details on each of the 30 some updates, I think I have snapshots of the release notes for each and could try to combine them into a single document if needed.

The main thing is under-the-hood updates to Visual Foxpro. Faster, record limits and other capacities expanded, etc. There were no big feature changes between 9.xxx and 10.0. Just an ongoing evolution. However, a lot has been done since 10 came out. To see these changes, install the free 9.1 update
https://www.hosenose.com...and-fixes.aspx#post6041
This adds the ability to update LOGic from within LOGic.

Click help/check for updates. You can scroll thru and look at the changes from 9.1.0 and on.

LOGic 10 is only $40 including a year of updates BTW.

This is the entry for 1.0.0

This release has big under-the-hood changes.

LOGic is written in Visual FoxPro. Microsoft discontinued upgrades to it some years ago. Thanks to its flexibility, power, and ability to interface with .Net and other technologies, it has continued to serve us well. An independent individual has picked up support of Visual Foxpro, offering new versions which he has been updating monthly. It is called VFP Advanced or VFPA. He has fixed a number of bugs in the last official release of VFP 9, and has added new features as well. For example, there is a two gigabyte limit to a .DBF file size in the original VFP. No one has ever exceeded that in LOGic, but the possibility exists. That limit has been removed.

More importantly, VFPA gives us the option of making LOGic a true 64-bit program. This would be trivial except that all of the external stuff that LOGic calls also has to be converted to 64-bit. This is not something we are going to do immediately, but it does give LOGic more room to grow. VFP is normally an interpretive language. A version of VFP Advanced that compiles to true Intel code is available. I am experimenting with this. It should be even faster. This release of LOGic uses VFP Advanced (32-bit interpretive). You will notice better stability and perhaps a bit more speed.

We now have a new platform on which to continue to develop LOGic.

Help/About now shows the Visual FoxPro version. This release is 10.01.something. If previous versions of had this version, it would show 9.something.

The space for storing user-defined fields has been doubled. It was previously 254 characters.

The Telnet and CW Keyer windows permit sizing

Several people refused to upgrade to 9.21.4 (the last version) because we "enhanced" the telnet and CW Keyer windows to show actual short descriptions on the function key labels instead of 1 2 3 ... 20. This caused them to take up a good bit more screen real estate. This release permits you to size the windows down to cover some of the 20 function key buttons. Most people do not use more than a few, especially on Telnet They are still a little bigger than before. But please keep in mind that relative to the lowest resolution monitors available today compared with a high-end monitor when these features were added to LOGic, they are much smaller.

CIA Factbook interface fixed. Previously, it tried to use Internet Explorer, which will not work on the CIA web site. It will now use your default browser. Before attempting to use the CIA Factbook, right-click on the CIA button in the Info window, and click the DEFAULT button.

The Factbook uses the WebDriver interface, which is intended to automate browsers for cross-browser testing. This interface is still under development, and is quite different than the interface provided by Internet Explorer, which LOGic currently uses, and unfortunately does not expose the windows handle (HWND) of the browser in use. LOGic currently uses HWND extensively. It is our intention to switch all of the browser interfaces in LOGic to WebDriver. However, this will be a while in happening.

LOGic's WebDriver interface uses your selected default browser. Currently, Microsoft Edge (the new Chromium version only), Google Chrome, Firefox, and Internet explorer are supported. If LOGic cannot figure out what your default browser is, it will default to Microsoft Edge. Make sure you have version 79 or later of Edge installed. If you do not, please update it. However, I believe that most if not all Windows 10 machines have been updated automatically.

The installer automatically installs VCRuntime140.dll in Windows if it does not exist. This is a file needed by LOGic, and is generally provided with Windows 10. However, we have run across several instances where it is missing from Window 10, and required a manual download and instill.

Callbook batch update now shows progress, and permits you to change throttling while active.

New prefix exceptions file, Aug 4, 20201. Version is CT3 Madera Is. To view version, open Forms/Info, and type VERSION in the Prefix field.
