I did everything I could think of including changing com port hardware to no avail - still could not get to ifc rotor control. Knocked me out of Logic every time.
I finally cloned Windows 8 to another drive and applied the 8.1 update fresh. It works! Why it got broken we will probably never know. The callbook minimize icon is still truncated.
As far as I am concerned 8.1 is not ready for prime time yet and I plan stay with 8 for the foreseeable future - at least it works. :)

Glad to hear it works now. When we talked on the phone I was sure the driver was screwed up but it turns out it was Windows. Thanks for letting me know.
