This forum topic contains all LOGic 9 updates and related posts.

The updates are listed in chronological order. The most recent updates are at the bottom. Click here to go to the most recent post. This will scroll to the bottom of the last page of this topic.

You do not need to install every update. Just get the latest!

Beginning November 2012, the latest prefix table is shipped with the updates. Installation of the prefix table is optional. However, there were significant changes to the prefix lookup engine and prefix table in the 9.0.48 update, so we highly recommend updating your prefix table if you are currently using an older version. Version 9.0.59 added support for user-supplied prefix table records that are not overwritten by updates.

Some of the update entries into this forum have had the actual download removed. This is to save space and prevent people from downloading the wrong version or versions which introduced bugs. The description of changes remain for recordkeeping purposes.

This thread is for PDA update postings only. We no longer allow discussion here because people had trouble finding the actual updates. If you want to discuss an update, please start a new thread in the LOGic Forum > LOGIc Updates > LOGic 9 Updates

There is a problem with the Awards report throwing errors while the spot log is processing spots. This update improves the situation. If you continue to experience problems, close Telnet, Webcluster, and whatever else is feeding the spot log before running the report. We will continue to research this.

Support for HamQTH.com, a free international web-based callbook. It sends the data in XML format, so no web page overhead to deal with. Go to http://www.hamqth.com to sign up. Go into the callbook setup of LOGic to enable it. You will be prompted for your HamQTH user and password.

Fixed some address formatting issues when copying callbook info to the log Address window.

Callbook facility now supports auto logging IOTA and QSL Mgr (available in QRZ Subscription and HamQTH only). In both callbooks, I cannot find a case where the IOTA field is actually populated. Instead it is put in the address line. We did our best to hanle this.

Updated to handle eQSL picture import. It was "broken" by a change to their site.

Turned off polling option for K3. We enabled it for the TS-850 driver to spport the TS-2000. K3 is a subclass of this driver, so it got affected too.

Fixed some Cabrillo issues.

Fixed error LATITUE NOT FOUND when spotting VHF.

Improved parsing of addresses in callbook.

Remove VIA from QSL Manager returned by callbook. In other words, no it longer logs VIA WN4AZY in the Via field. It just logs WN4AZY now. This allows the address lookup to be for the manager and not the station being worked.

Fix CW timing issues experenced by some computers.

Clicking the Browse button in any of LOGic's data forms will not only bring the Browse window to the top, but unminimize it if it is minimized. Tnx W7OO.

eQSL should now import either JPGs or PNGs. Let me know if any problems.

Support for CW Operator's Club membership list import.

Fixed problems with WinKeyer interface

Fixed problem with downloading eQSL QSL Card Pictures

Set default baud rate of FT9000/5000/2000 to 4800 baud

Report writer can now change the default printer used by a report. When running the report, the final screen shows the printer being used. Click the little square to the right to change.

Fixed problem with report writer where it was displaying only two decimal places for Frequency.

Fixed spot log lookup of prefix table. This is a bit complicated to explain, but in summary, this was discovered when Swains Island KH8S went active. To make this call spot properly, enter K8HS_ in the Prefix Table. However, even after this was done, it still wasn't spotting properly. This has been fixed.

(This problem was caused by KH8S being in the callbook and the spot log using the callbook address which of course is not Swains Is. The spot log will now ignore the callbook location if a callbook lookup would put the spot in a different DXCC country than the prefix table indicates. This could have been worked around by turning off callbook lookup in the spot log).

Fixed problem where moving mouse over State or DXCC in the log form while filtering would throw an error.

Nov 12, 2012 9.0.48
  • Prefix lookup engine totally redone to permit more wildcard options. Now supports Russian prefixes down to the Oblast level without a lot of grief.
    See here.

This update includes a new prefix table with Russia totally redone. You will be asked if you want to replace PREFIX.DBF. If you want to keep your old prefix table, select No. It wouldn't hurt to make a copy of prefix.dbf (located in the data folder inside your install folder) before installing this update. The old prefix table format will still work.

The new prefix table has all of the oblasts. We could do more work on breaking out specific Antarctic bases, but at least the correct DXCC will be logged.

A new Oblast list will be posted in the Prefix and Table Updates section.

  • Fixed problem with the Days Ago feature of the spot log. This feature shows that you have worked a specific station on a specific band or mode recently.

  • Fixed problem where any value could be typed in the control that prompts for a COM port. You are now forced to select a legitimate COM port from the dropdown list.

  • Spot log updating is now faster.

  • LOGic should now run without errors when no sound card or speakers are installed.

Nov 28, 2012 9.0.49

Fixes a problem introduced by 9.0.48 where the spot log current record would jump around rather than staying at the top of the list (when order set to Time Rcvd). This happened when a non-SSB spot that was previously worked, activating the Days Ago feature, was received.

See notes for 9.0.48 above for important info on the prefix table.

  • New live keyboard lookup feature for callsign. When you are adding a new QSO to the log, type the call. As soon as you stop typing, the Info window, map, Progress 1 & 2, memberships, and other QSOs window update automatically. You do not need to press {Tab} to see this info.

This simplifies things if you do not actually work the station whose call you enter. Instead of pressing {Esc} to back out, then add again, just clear the call field and carry on. It's cool to watch too. You enter say K, it shows United States. You then type P4 after the K, and it shows Puerto Rico. The map updates. You type a whole call, Other QSOs and Memberships comes to life.

This feature does not do a callbook lookup.

Thanks to N7IP for this one!

  • New auto file name feature for Backup. There is now an option on the Advanced tab to automatically assign a filename to the backup based on your call and the current local date/time. This makes doing repeated backups to the same location (i.e. a flash drive) a one-click operation.

Thanks to Gary KA1J for this new feature!

  • Fixed bug where prefix lookup wasn't handling KP4, KL7, etc. properly. It was returning United States. This problem was introduced with the last update when ranges of characters or multiple characters could be specified for wildcards. This could have been fixed by updating the prefix table, but rather than doing that, a new rule was added. For a prefix of a given length, a prefix without wildcards takes precidence over one that does. So KP4 overrides K[A-Z]4.

There is one small prefix table change in this update. Alaska listed KL,AL,NL,WL for the prefixes. It should be KL7,AL7,NL7,WL7.

  • Download of CWOPS membership now works. Thanks to Ty N4TY of First Class Operators Club for assisting with this. http://cwops.org

(I emailed a few of you the database several weeks ago. Please download again. The list on the web site isn't up-to-date apparently.)

  • Fix to new (non-legacy) M-squared 2800 and 2800PX rotor interfaces. Not tested. Reading of frequency added. Click the POLL checkmark. Not tested.

  • Changes to WinKeyer interface. Increased power-up delay. May solve reliability problems. Now using hi-rez multimedia timer for calibration.

  • Fixed bug where UNDOing Set Rig on the spot log would error when using multiple radios. Tnx 4Z5SL.

Dennis, this is a great update and fun to use. Thanks. It is a huge value to us users that you continue to improve the product. As we all know, not many logging programs are constantly improved like yours.

OK, at the risk of sounding ungrateful--I'm really very grateful!--when I hit the ESC key to back out of the call sign entry, the log goes to the previous saved record. To enter another call, I need to hit ctrl-N. So two commands to back out of a callsign. It would be much easier if ESC took me back to a blank entry window, ready for callsign entry.

You're most welcome! Thank YOU for the idea.

I guess we could add an option to make {Esc} do what it does now, plus add a new record. Or do it only when adding, otherwise it would be confusing if you were editing an old QSO, and say discovered you were editing the WRONG qso, then press {Esc} to back out and your log screen goes blank. Anyway, it isn't really an issue now because thanks to you all you need to do is type another call in the log field where you already are.

  • A little more space is now available for user-defined fields. Previously, a space was placed between fields:
    RIG:ICOM| AGE:55| IOTA:AN-001|
Now they are stored without spaces like this:
    RIG:ICOM|AGE:55|IOTA:AN-001|
Data in the old format will still work.
  • If only one radio is configured, it will be used regardless of settings in log form (None will be honored however).
  • Fixed problem with Orion 2800 & 2800PX rotors crashing LOGic. Polling to read current direction not tested. Let me know.
  • Fixes to Cabrillo contest scoring -- prompts for exchange input now accept default blank in setup and displays generic propmts.
  • Now allows setting of PWR using COM interface.
