Hi,

I am running running version .60 on both computers.

I have been backing up from the computer in my shack to my main computer upstairs. I have been doing this for months without problem.

Today when I tried to do a backup I repeatedly get the attached error message.

Here is what I am doing:

Tools
Backup/Restore
Replace log data check box
Restore
Select the proper file on the D drive
Open

At this point the attached error message appears.

When I look in C:\program files (86)\logic\tmp\ the backup/tmp file is NOT there!

At this point I can go back into LOGic and the restore did not happen and my original log data is there. If I try to restore an old backup I have the same results.

What can I do to correct this?

Thank you,

Bill

Hi Bill:

I am wondering if the file you are trying to restore is bad. What size is it?

Send me the file and I can try it here, or make another backup and try to restore it. You can choose the "do nothing" option when testing.

Thanks,

Dennis

Hi Bill:

Thanks for emailing me your backup. As you predicted, it restores fine here. Not sure what is going on.

The backup.tmp file is created when you start the restore and is automatically deleted after the restore finishes. I watched the tmp folder while doing a restore, backup.tmp appeared and was 2100 kb, then disappeared.

Try the same experiment and let me know what you see. I am running Win 7 64-bit. XP may not refresh the directory automatically -- you may have to hit view/refresh.

Try the usual -- turn off any virus checkers, make sure user account control is off, and that you have admin privileges. Start in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING SUPPORT to boot up clean. Let me know.

Tnx & 73,

DH

Hi Dennis,

As usual thank you for your help.

I reboted the computer into SAFE mode. I was then able to do a restore just like I always have. I watched the temp folder and Backup.TMP did appear and then went away.

When it was all done my restore was perfect. I have no clue why SAFE mode made a difference. I rebooted again and was able to restore in the normal operating mode.

73,

Bill
