A picture of your screen can be very helpful for technical support or
illustrating a document you are writing. In Windows, you need no special software to
do make a screen shot. Here's how.
Windows 7 has a nifty "Snipping Tool". Click the Windows Start
menu button, and type snip in the Search field. You can create snips of
areas, windows, etc. Click Help for more info. You can typically click
Copy, then paste the screen shot directly into the body of your email.
Some editions of Windows Vista also have the Snipping Tool.
Try following the info above, and if you don't have it, search the web for Vista
Snipping Tool. You may be able to add it.
To use Windows built-in screen capture in Windows Vista and before
(actually works on Win 7 also):
-
Press the PrintScreen button
-
Run Paint. It is in Start Menu/Programs/Accessories (If it is
not there, add it by running Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. Select Windows
Setup). Go to the edit menu and select Paste. You will be asked if you want to
enlarge the bitmap. Answer Yes.
-
You now have a picture of your screen in Paint. You may print it or
save it to disk.
-
When saving to disk, choose GIF or JPEG format if those options
are available on your system. These formats are
compressed and save a lot of disk space and a lot of time when emailing!
-
You may be able to click Edit/Copy in Paint, then paste directly
into the body of your email.
